We left from Oaxaca to Chiapas with the night bus. At the bus station in Tuxtla we were picked up at 5.45 am by a taxi driver and we drove to our hotel in Chiapa de Corzo. Here we could immediately use our room. Beautiful hotel. Here are some features of the long journey. We were picked up 10 hours to make a boat trip through the Cañon de Sumidero. Great trip, between high cliffs by. Beautiful nature, several birds, monkeys, crocodiles. The rest of the day we spent in Chiapa de Corzo.
The next day we were picked up by our guide and driver Juan at the hotel to continue our journey towards San Cristobal. By the beautiful mountain scenery drove to our first destination: Chamula. Here we have visited the most impressive church. Praying people sitting on the ground, with offerings. A church lit by just candles, lots of pictures and bloemen. Most of the people here dressed in traditional costume.
Then we travel to Zinancantan. After a visit to a very special cemetery, visited a family where the women are engaged in weaving fabrics. The men work primarily in floriculture. We were very warmly welcomed and shown around.
Then we drove to San Cristobal, we first issued our stuff in the back beautiful hotel and then with our guide Juan made a walk. Here was clear to see the difference between the beautiful colonial town and the poor suburbs with huge markets, where the most diverse things were sold. San Cristobal is a beautiful city!
After San Cristobal de las Casas we left with a luxury bus to Palenque. The rain was pouring from the sky. And that was strange for December. The hotel was gorgeous in the jungle, but the weather we are not able to enjoy the beautiful nature.
Picked up by our guide and driver to visit the National Park of Palenque. Very impressive with great explanation of the gids. Then we went to Laguna Catazaja to take a boat ride after lunch together on the lake. Unfortunately it rained and it was unfortunate that this trip was less attractive than planned. Yet there it was many pelicans, eagles, iguanas and a boa constrictor. In good weather it had certainly been a wonderful journey.
The next day we were again picked up by our guide at the hotel to visit the beautiful waterfalls of Agua Azul, several streams and waterfalls composite made this an impressive whole.
Then drove to Tonina, a less turistic place, where also is an unearthed a huge Mayan temple. We visited the museum and again climbed up the temple.
After our travel in Chiapas we went to Puerto Escondido on the night bus.
Puerto Escondido was warm and sunny. By taxi to our hotel, where we have a little confidence and delicious showered in our beautiful suite. Puerto Escondido is a lovely resort with beautiful bays and lovely beaches. We love it there and rested on the rather exhausting but beautiful trip through Chiapas.
Our last day we took a small plane with 14 people on board, from Puerto Escondido traveled back to Oaxaca. Enjoyed the beautiful view on the way. The flight lasted just 45 minutes. Highly recommended !!
At the airport we were met again by our daughter Ellen and her friend to go back to their home and our vacation to spend another week in the beauty Oaxaca.
We enjoyed our trip !! Chapeau for Brenda, who has organized for us an unforgettable tour through this magnificent Mexico !!
